Judy Blume was the author who tended to write about the more challenging issues, and tended to shock people with her harsher realities. Beverly Cleary focused more on cheering people up and making them smile. Many people confuse the two, and it's not hard to see why, as they do write similar types of works, albeit in nearly opposite directions at times.
I grew up on Ramona myself so this is actually a really pleasant little surprise. I can see what you're talking about if these were graphic novels instead! Not a bad idea, and a cute piece of work at that.
