I was sheltered from everything remotely unpleasant as a kid and still grew up to be a corrupt, violence-obsessed pervert. It's impossible to keep kids from ever seeing *anything* violent, and when a sheltered kid catches a rare glimpse of an R-rated movie, it becomes a huge curiosity instead of just a movie.
But at the same time, I think that curiosity was a big part of my artistic development, so who knows whether it was a good or bad thing.
